    About Westport, Connecticut

    Westport is a Fairfield County town that lies in the southern part of Connecticut. It was once known as the Green’s Farm because the first settlers were farmers. It was in 1835 that the name was changed to Westport. Since then, it had become a busy shipping town and was the leading onion growing center in the 19th century. At the turn of the 20th century, Westport transformed into an upscale residential community. Numerous artists, writers, and a lot of musicians were attracted to the area.

    The residents and visitors can visit the Rolnick observatory for free every Wednesday and Thursday nights. It is run by the Westport Astronomical Society and is located on a former Nike missile site. Another attraction is the Earthplace: The Nature Discovery Center. It is a combination of a natural history museum, a wildlife sanctuary and a nature center. This institution teaches the public about environmental conservation. It also has a nursery school and summer camp for the kids.
